No More Snow Days

It was back to school today after 4.5 days off - 2.5 were planned or weekend days and only 2 were snow days. Lots of fun was had on the snow days though - staying home and playing all day long - who can beat that! I don't think the kids were quite ready to head back to school today though.

Basketball updates - Garrett's team won an exciting game on Saturday and he had 2 points. He played great defense. He has about 2 weeks off from games now. Kaylynn had a Y-team game on Saturday and we won 14 to 10. Kaylynn got a rebound and made a last second shot to end the second quarter! It was exciting! The team played much better and it was a great time! Tonight was not so great. We lost by more than we ever have before to a team with all the girls nearly as tall as me! I give our team all the credit in the world as they never gave up and played hard all the way to the end! Kaylynn had 2 points in this game and was fouled while shooting -so had a chance for a 3 point play. Did not get it but sure did try hard!

Yesterday Eric and the kids went sledding and had a blast! The stories were numerous. Think that about sums up the news from here so far. The next 2 weeks are busy - finishing plans for Catholic Schools Week, basketball nearly every night and to top it off I have agreed to start a new 4-H club at the school - we had our first meeting tonight! Never a dull moment at the the Schers!

Trying to Stay Warm

Note that this was written on Jan. 15th - just not posted until tonight. I was trying to upload some video footage, but have not had any luck. I will keep trying. Well, I suppose as most, we are working at trying to stay warm in this crazy cold! No school for the kids today meant I had to stay home too. Darn! Now to recap a few things that have happened over the last week.

Last Friday, Kaylynn was in a short skit at school, dressed as a pig - what else? They were suppose to have done it just before Christmas as it was a skit about the birth of Jesus from the perspective of the animals in the stable. With a little rewrite, they did it the Friday we returned to school. She did great. Quite the natural actress.

What a cute pig!

Aren't they cute?

Back to basketball on Saturday. Garrett's team lost but he played well. Keeps getting better at that dribbling. Kaylynn's intramural team lost 16 to 11 but once again, she had 4 points! Garrett had a game again on Monday evening and a win came their way. He played well again. He even had 4 points! The Scher kids must be stuck on 4!

Is this a Mr. Basketball in the making?

The kids did get to play in the snow for a while on Wednesday, as it was not as frigid. I am not sure who wanted this more - them or their dad. Too bad he was at work! Well, back to watching the Boilers on TV. Everyone stay warm!

KAYLYNN SCORES 4 POINTS!

We had an exciting game last night! We took on St. Joan of Ark/Patrick from Kokomo at home. Finally we played a team more our size - they were 4th and 5th graders. We held our own and had a lead going into halftime - 8 to 6. They picked up their defense and we tired in the second half. We ended up losing 10 to 14. Kaylynn scored 4 of these points!

As I told the girls, they were the winners last night even if the scoreboard didn't show it. Just over a month or two ago, the group of girls came together with only 3 of the 9 ever playing basketball before; most with little knowledge of the game. So for us to hold our own and play as good as we did is a great accomplishment! Additionally, we scored more points in this game than we have scored all of our other games combined. WAY TO GO TROJANS!

Back at it!

School started again Monday and I don't think any of us were ready for it. Okay, maybe mom and dad! After the day though, the kids said it was good. We were back at it with practices and games. In judo news, both Kaylynn and Garrett have moved up to their orange belts and to say they are proud is an understatement. Garrett wore his for the first time Monday evening at judo practice and he could hardly get the smile off his face!

On to basketball that evening. Garrett had a game and won. He played great defense and is becoming quite the dribbler. Kaylynn had practice and tonight has her first game for St. Paul in quite a while. This is double exciting as it is the team's first home game! Go Trojans!

The sick bug came back for me and off to the doctor yesterday. Got new meds and already feeling better. Sticking at home for a few days though per doctor's orders.

Eric worked earlier this week and is enjoying have his mid-week days back to himself. He is out at the airport finally getting to work on his plane. Seems like forever since he did that! Don't underestimate the work from over the weekend. He started off the new year by painting and decorating our entry room - formerly called the "fish room." The fish are no more!

Kaylynn helping redecorate the fish room.

Think that is the news for now. Will post the results from the game tonight soon!

Let the New Year Begin

Who can believe it is now 2009! Time sure does fly by. With the start of a new year, I have made a few resolutions - one of which was to start this blog to let family and friends know what is happening in the busy life at the Scher house. Keep watching for more!
